LatAm Websites Worth Reading

There’s a whole load of good stuff on Latin America in the inter webs. Here are some of my favourite sites ūüôā

General Latin America pages…

  • PanAm Post – All sorts of stuff from all over the Americas.

Mexico…

Guatemala…

  • Plaza Publica – Good journalism covering Guatemala. Not Nuestro Diario. Also, if you ever find yourself in Guatemala City they usually have some good events on which can be¬†worth attending.

El Salvador…

  • El Faro – Investigative journalism in El Salvador and Central America. Oscar Martinez (of “The Beast” fame) is one of the chief contributors (Spanish language). One of my favourites.

Venezuela…

  • Caracas Chronicles – One of my favourite blogs. All the ins and outs of a country with more than its¬†fair share of catastrophic political and economic misadventures. Try reading VenezuelaAnalysis afterwards to get an idea of what a disastrously polarised country feels like.
  • The Devil’s Excrement – Another excellent blog on Venezuela. All sorts of observations on the country, but my particular favourite thing has to be the explanations of Venezuela’s economic situation. The “Hyperinflated Arepa Index” charts the meteoric rise of the country’s inflation in language everyone can relate to – the price of your favourite food.
  • DolarToday – Talking about inflation…If you believe what the government says then by reading this Miami-based site, you are complicit in the “economic war” being waged by imperialist elites on the Bolivarian Republic… (Vital reading if you plan on travelling to Venezuela).

Brazil…

  • RioOnWatch – All sorts of stories from Rio with a focus on the favelas in the city.
